Winfrey was born into poverty in ruralMississippi to a teenage single mother and later raised in inner-city Milwaukee. She has stated that she was molested during her childhood and early teens and became pregnant at 14; her son was bornprematurely and died in infancy.[15] Winfrey was then sent to live with the man she calls her father, Vernon Winfrey, a barber inTennessee, and landed a job in radio while still in high school. By 19, she was a co-anchor for the local evening news. Winfrey's often emotional, extemporaneous delivery eventually led to her transfer to the daytime talk show arena, and after boosting a third-rated local Chicago talk show to first place,[16]she launched her own production company and became internationally syndicated.

Credited with creating a more intimate confessional form of media communication,[17] Winfrey popularized and revolutionized[17][18] the tabloid talk show genre pioneered by Phil Donahue.[17]Through this medium, Winfrey broke 20th-century taboos and allowed LGBT people to enter the mainstream through television appearances.[19][20] In 1994, she was inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame.[21]

By the mid-1990s, Winfrey had reinvented her show with a focus on literature, self-improvement, mindfulness and spirituality. Though she was criticized for unleashing a confession culture, promoting controversial self-help ideas,[22] and having an emotion-centered approach,[23]she has also been praised for overcoming adversity to become a benefactor to others.[24] Winfrey had also emerged as a political force in the 2008 presidential race, delivering about one million votes toBarack Obama in the razor close 2008 Democratic primary.[25] In 2013, Winfrey was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Obama[26] and honorary doctorate degrees from Dukeand Harvard.[27][28] In 2008, she formed her own network, Oprah Winfrey Network.

Make A Difference

Hi Everyone,

It's Wow Word Wednesday at The Fun Reading Club on Facebook and Instagram! I want to take a powerful moment to begin to share the contrast between a difference maker and difference faker.

This topic is important because it may help fill the 'fake character deficit' that we as educators, business owners and parents notice when dealing with people who send rude messages into the world for others to embrace.

Warning! This is one of those shoe fit points that will surely cause a person with 'selective character' to think of ways to develop or further counterfeit their character in the days to come.

I have said a mouth full in the first few sentences, but sadly, the critic may have missed it. That could good and bad. Unfortunately, you will have to let this marinate until Saturday. The best way to understand a message from me is to listen to its purpose. The purpose of this message may be found in sentences three and four. Go ahead, re-read them as I type the bottom line to today's thoughts.

"Children are born innocent into a world filled with the tricks of the trade of living. With one whimper, they ask for help from a person who has lived here all of their life. Seemingly, they are asking the right person, but it remains to be seen if that person is willing or even able to assist. I could go on with this point, but I'll save it for later. Let me leave you with this instead:

"Most babies whine and cry to get their milk; when nurtured, they learn to verbalize and meet their own needs in the future." For the sake of understanding one of the most argued points that I can make, think about the definition of a difference maker versus the difference faker.

I will share the difference, and ways we as "only humans" can grow past needing milk to chewing on the meat called life!

B's Top Teaching Tips

I love bringing top teaching tips that worked on children who grew up to be doctors and lawyers because of great old teaching strategies by un confused educators. This includes the child's first teacher, their homeschool mother. These days, when you are confused as to wether your child is way too young to read, or if it's unpopular to teach one way versus another, view Ms.B's Top Teaching Tips, they haven't failed a grade yet!

For more of what Ms.B could silently teach children and adults, just read her quirky little notes. You may find knowledge and adventure wrapped in one.

Stay tuned for her books. Reserve yours at www.thefunreadingclub.online or at www.joneseducationalconsulting.com.

What's the Weather - Vacation Style

Hello Everyone!

It is early morning from where I sit, as we say in Georgia. I recently checked the weather while writing on my beautiful laptop computer. The time is 3:40am. The weather report below explains the dripping sound that I had just heard outside my window. I suspected it to be the tranquil sound of light rain in Georgia. I was correct, perhaps for the 1st time in 2019. I am laughing. The sound of rain actually caused me to recall the song which has the lyrics: Rainy days in Georgia. I currently feel on top of the world. Since I feel elevated, I decided to do what any vacationing storyteller would do; I relaxed and savored the moment. This has been one of the most eye-opening vacations of my storytelling career. I plan to live on #365SelfAve for 365 days of 2019 and beyond. Keep joining me at The Fun Reading Club on Facebook and Instagram. Let's see what happens next!
